Colic is a common problem

Common Colic Symptoms

Colicky babies often have prolonged periods of intense crying, excessive gas, stomach discomfort, hiccups and difficulty sleeping. Examples:

  • Prolonged crying between 6 pm and midnight in a baby that has been fed
  • While crying, the baby draws his legs up to his abdomen and clenches his hands and his toes; his face alternatively flushes and pales with the effort of crying
  • The baby is very irritable and fussy
  • Episodes of crying may begin or end with a bowel movement or the passage of gas.
