Roshan's Blog:Our Fish Oil & The Recent Controversy
04/07/10
Recently, the media has been reporting that many fish oils on the market are not safe and could be harmful due to unacceptable PCB levels within the fish used to make that oil. We’ve received hundreds of calls from concerned customers, but you can rest assured our Mommy’s Bliss™ Fish Oil is some of the safest. We’ve always been confident about the safety and source of our Omega 3 and I’ve put together some information that I hope will ease your mind about our product.
• Fish oil is more likely to contain toxins and PCB’s when it is derived from cod liver oil, shark liver oil or salmon oil. The primary products in the lawsuit were from these kinds of larger predatory fish.
• Our fish oil comes from wild sardines, anchovy and mackerel-all of which have the lowest levels of toxins if any at all. More sophisticated manufacturers, like ours, use additional processes like molecular distillation, to reduce the chance of toxins being present. Being from wild sources also makes a considerable difference (and ours is wild!).
• Regulatory agencies have set “Safe Harbor” limits which means there is “No Significant Risk Level” (NSRL), according to current research.
• The FDA set a NSRL limit that food products could not contain more than 2 parts per million PCB’s.
• California Prop 65 set a NSRL limit that CA manufacturers could not make food products or supplements with more than .09 parts per million, a much stricter guideline than the FDA.
• Our fish oil is compliant with CA Prop 65, meaning it has none or less than .09 parts per million. This is the strictest level of compliance a company can have.
• Our manufacturer is one of the few to be compliant with FDA, Prop 65, Health Canada, European Commission, and the Norwegian Safety Authority.
I can assure you that all fish oil supplements are not created equal but you can trust us, as usual, to deliver the highest quality and safest product for you and your family. So keep taking your Omega 3 so that you and everyone can stay healthy.
