Roshan's Blog: Heartburn During Pregnancy

06/02/10

Heartburn during pregnancy is a common discomfort I’ve seen over the years during my time working with pregnant women.

Luckily, I did not experience this at all with any of my three pregnancies. I guess I was fortunate as it can be really uncomfortable, particularly during a time in which the body is undergoing all sorts of other changes.

As the baby grows throughout pregnancy more pressure is placed on the woman’s stomach. This can cause stomach acid to rise which in turn results in a burning sensation in the throat – known as heartburn.

I remember many women reaching for their stash of antacids for quick relief even though they did not like the chalky texture or the artificial flavors. They had to take so many during the day, but it was better than nothing.

I also learnt from other midwives that they had noticed increased calcification of the placenta at birth in women who had taken large doses of antacids tablets during their pregnancy. My experience tells me that this is not a good thing for a baby during pregnancy.

Because of this I saw an opportunity to provide a better chewable antacid tablet than what currently existed. Several years ago we introduced Mommy’s Bliss™ Pregnancy Hearburn™ Comfort which is all natural, has no chalky texture, and works quickly. Like all our products it’s safe and effective and created with you and your family’s well-being in mind.
